Focus on the Story is accepting proposals for its inaugural 2021 Emerging Storytellers Grant, which is aimed at helping a visual storyteller begin and complete a community-driven project that tells a compelling and impactful visual story.

We want to recognize the stories that matter to the people in your community, whether it’s in your city, neighborhood or block. You don’t need a long list of photographic accomplishments to win this year’s grant, just a passion for the creative process and a vision on how to bring it to life.

Focus on the Story will award a grant of $2,000 and a Fujifilm gear package to one visual storyteller with the goal of presenting their completed project at the Focus on the Story International Photo Festival 2022. The Focus on the Story Board of Directors will select the grant winner based on three criteria 1) the strength of the grant application 2) the quality of the submitted portfolio images and 3) the likelihood that the grant applicant can complete the project in time for next year’s festival.

But we’re not just giving you some cash and gear and sending you on your way. We will be along on your storytelling journey. The Focus on the Story Board of Directors will provide monthly feedback, critiques and storytelling guidance. We’ll also celebrate your progress by sharing your images — made with the Fujifilm X-T4 — in monthly updates to our social media followers.
