2019 Focus on the Story Awards

The winners of the 2019 Focus on the Story Awards came from all corners of the world. The top winner in the series category told the story of Central American migrants trying to reach the U.S, while the single image winner was a dramatic image of a father and his newborn son.

2018 Focus on the Story Awards

We asked entrants in the inaugural Focus on the Story Awards to show us compelling stories that explored the human condition. Hundreds of entries answered the call but, after two rounds of judging, it was clear there was one photographer who rose above the crowd.

Great American Eclipse Photo Challenge

We wanted photos that best told the story of Aug. 21, 2017, the day of the Great American Eclipse. Winners and runners up to appear in Chasing the Great American Eclipse: Images and Essays From Totality, a photo book that will document the day’s events.

Summer in the City

For this street photography contest, we asked people to interpret our theme “Summer in the City.” How they interpreted the theme was entirely up to them. We received submissions from all over the world, including the winning image from Brussels.

Our UnPresidented Open Call

The width and breadth of the images submitted to our open call to appear in our photo book, UnPresidented: The Inauguration of Donald J. Trump and the People’s Response, was impressive: There were angry protestors. Jubilant Trump supporters. Rioters. Police. Defiant marchers. And signs. Lots of signs.
