Poh Si Teng is an Emmy-nominated director and senior commissioning producer in the documentaries department at Al Jazeera English (International). She looks after documentary commissions from the Americas for WITNESS, the channel’s award-winning flagship character-led observational strand. She recently commissioned and senior produced Venezuela: Smuggling Dreams, Children of the FARC and Deportees Welcome: Between MS-13 and Call Centers.
Poh is also a former journalist for The New York Times, where she received an Emmy nomination and awards from the Society of Professional Journalists’ Deadline Club and the National Press Photographers Association for her documentary, Flirting With the Islamic State. At the Times, she was part of the team that received a Public Service Reporting Award from the Scripps Howard Foundation for the “Fatal Flaws” investigation, which exposed widespread inattention to safety defects by automakers, suppliers and regulators. The investigation contributed to the recall of 60 million vehicles.
