Celebrated artist, educator and activist Endia Beal talks about her book, Performance Review, which brings together work from her widely-published videos and photo projects, including “Am I What You’re Looking For?” “Office Scene,” “Can I Touch It?” and “9 to 5.” Beal’s thought-provoking work explores the realities and challenges that women of color face in the corporate workplace.  Joining her in the conversation is Angel N. Livas, host of “The Woman Behind the Business Talk Show.”

Beal, who spoke at the first Focus on the Story International Photo Festival in 2018, has received rave reviews for her book, including being named to Buzzfeed’s Top 20 Photobooks of 2020, Vogue Italia’s Top Photobooks of 2020 and The Luupe’s Top Women-Made Photobooks. She was also featured in The Atlantic’s November 2020 issue.

Endia Beal is a North Carolina based artist, curator, and author. Beal’s work merges fine arts with social justice. She uses photography and video to reveal the often overlooked and unappreciated experiences unique to people of color. Specifically, Beal’s first monograph, Performance Review, brings together work over a 10-year period that highlights the realities and challenges for women of color in the corporate workplace. She lectures about these experiences, which also addresses bias in corporate hiring practices.  She is a fellow of the Center for Curatorial Leadership and completed residencies at Harvard Art Museums, the Center for Photography at Woodstock and McColl Center for Art + Innovation. Beal received grants from the Magnum Foundation and the Open Society Foundation, among others.

Angel N. Livas is an international best-selling author, CEO, visionary and award-winning director of the I AM BLACK documentary, “The Enlightenment.” She is also the recipient of the 2019 Communicator award for “TheWoman Behind the Business Talk Show,” which airs on 96.3FM-HD4 in Washington, DC.
